The YTS data contains establishment-level data on employment and establishment location. Employee counts for each establishment are based on the number of
jobs, and are not adjusted for full-time equivalency. All data is reported by employers through reports filed subject to unemployment compensation laws. Therefore, some self-reporting bias must be understood when analyzing establishment-level information. This online tool features aggregate trends information from YTS, including analysis of employment numbers at zip code, municipal, county, state, industry, and sector levels.
This online tool includes some comparison with the state ES-202 Employment and Wages database, which the state of Massachusetts features on the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development website. This data, as it is available to the public, only presents establishment-level employment numbers in pre-determined ranges.
Along with U.S. Department of Labor ES-202 data, the Massachusetts “Labor Market Information” data features Infogroup data files, which also compile the YTS database. Therefore, certain reporting errors in employment numbers and establishment listings are the same between both YTS and the state’s publicly available data. In most cases, YTS establishment or employment numbers for a municipality or industry are higher than those given by ES-202.
Without other establishment-level databases to verify the accuracy of each company listed in the data, the YTS database leads the charge to create the best data in the state of Massachusetts that is publicly available.
